People Who Differ

90' 2018 Russia director: Kirył Nienaszew cinematography: Kirył Nienaszew editing: Jewgienij Jakowlew production: Maria Muskiewicz

Yaroslavl, a city on the Volga, 2018. It was here that Boris Nemtsov served as a deputy in the regional legislature. In Moscow, people still lay flowers on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge, where he was assasined, and they keep vigil around the clock to make sure the flowers don’t disappear. In Yaroslavl, young volunteers are making an effort to monitor the upcoming Russian presidential election on behalf of the election committee of Alexei Navalny, despite well-founded fears that he won’t be allowed to run. Kirill Nenashev shows in his film a different Russia from the one most often discussed in the media and in documentary films: a young and local, beautiful and democratic Russia—a country of people who aren’t afraid to dream or to take action.
